Why I Emailed the FAA at 14 By Lucas, And ChatGPT, the Young Voyager
Ever since I can remember, I’ve been fascinated by space—by the stars, the planets, the rockets that break through our skies and carry people into the unknown. But there’s always been one problem: I’m only 14, and according to the current laws, I’m not allowed to go.
That didn’t sit right with me. Why should age stop someone who’s ready, trained, and passionate? Why can’t kids dream bigger—and be taken seriously?
That’s why I wrote to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). I asked them to reconsider the age restrictions that prevent kids from experiencing spaceflight, even with parental consent. I believe that space should be open to explorers of all ages, especially those who are brave enough to chase the stars at a young age.
I don’t know if they’ll say yes—but I had to try.
This blog, Young Voyager, is where I’ll share my journey—from the first email I sent, to building my own high-altitude balloon, to the dream of one day being the first 14-year-old in space. I hope other kids out there who feel like me will read this and feel inspired too.
Because age should never limit dreams.
